Our Production & Suppliers

Sustainability & Transparency

MORICO by Mori Collective designs according to slow fashion values: long-lasting multi-purpose clothing, material-based design, and responsible close-by production. Nature, geometry, symbolism as well as high quality materials inspire our collections.

Our goal is to use high quality materials and make designs that last with values that are based on taking care of the environment, and the people involved. We want our supply chain to be as transparent as possible, which is a challenge for a small company, but we are working hard for it and improving all our processes continuously. You can find a list of our suppliers from the bottom of this page.

The future for fashion should be circular instead of linear, and no material should go to waste at any point. Read more:

Production and sourcing

MORICO clothing is produced in small series in Estonia. We have collaborated with same company, Ally Oü, to produce most of MORICO clothing from the beginning since 2015. We visit the production regularly. Our jewellery is made from Finnish birch plywood, and is laser cut and assembled in Helsinki. Rather than having seasonal collections, we aim to continuity and production according to demand and available materials.

We source mainly from Finland and Europe, but some jewellery metal parts are sourced and made in the USA. Some of the ready garments (T-shirts and longsleeves) are made responsible in Bangladesh by Belgian Stanley/Stella or in India by Finnish Pure Waste Textiles Oy.

Packing

We try to avoid plastic at all stages. None of our clothes are packed in a single plastic bag. For some of our products in our warehouse, we use resealable plastic bags that we use several times. We reuse all cardboard boxes. We do not wrap clothes in any extra tissue paper or plastic for deliveries.

At the moment, our washing instruction labels are made of recycled polyester. Our product labels, jewellery boxes and packaging materials are FSC-certified (The Forest Stewardship Council) cardboard and kraft paper. We are searching and looking forward replace these with recycled materials.

In jewellery cases, instead of a traditional plastic foam inner, the inner holders are made of cardboard, and paper stickers are used instead of plastic stickers.

Deliveries & Returns

We try to offer our customers the most environmentally friendly online shopping shipping options. We use Posti and DHL GoGreen delivery methods. Some deliveries from Estonia to Finland are by Finnish HRX.

Posti no longer aims for carbon neutrality by offsetting its emissions. Instead, their new goal is to reduce emissions to net zero in 2040. Posti will reduce at least 90% of all greenhouse gases that their operations, even indirectly cause. The remaining 10% should be permanently removed from the atmosphere.

DHL Group commits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to the lowest possible level by 2050. Any remaining unavoidable emissions will be offset through recogned permanent carbon removal and storage measures approved by SBTi.

All of the returned products will be put back on sale. We never destroy returns and in case of quality issue, we repair them for sale as 2-quality. We do our best to find the right model and size for our customers. In addition, the fit of our swim & activewear are described in the Fit Guide.

Waste & Recycling

We recycle all cardboard, paper, plastic and bio waste according to Finnish waste regulations. We aim to minimize the generation of cutting waste by making the most efficient fabric cutting plans. If needed, we modify the model according to available fabric dimensions and roll width.  We use cutting waste to make scrunchies and save bigger pieces for new designs, such as the collaborative collection by the Helsinki-based designer Wasteless Wonders. The remaining waste is reused or disposed of according to EU waste regulations.

Future goals & improvements

  • Carbon & Water Footprint. As we are a small company, we have not have resources to conduct a carbon and water footprint calculation. We aim to have scope 1-3 carbon footprint calculation in 2025.
  • Renewable Energy. At the moment, we cannot affect our electricity contract, but we are trying to influence our landlord and suppliers to switch to renewable energy.
  • Enhance monitoring & recycling. We will monitor our waste and textile waste generation more in detail. We are planning a reasonable and sustainable way to increase the amount to recycle the textile waste we cannot re-use in 2025.
  • Zero Waste Design. We are studying and continuing to design more and more according to zero waste design to reduce our cutting waste to minimum.
  • Pre-orders. We are planning to go towards production according to pre-orders only to avoid overproduction.
  • Circular Economy Business Models. We are exploring different circular economy concepts such as second-hand and sharing.
